MEDIA ADVISORY: ReBokeh assistive tech app now available for free at the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s Renwick Gallery

ReBokeh app empowers visually impaired visitors to fully engage with the museum’s collection of contemporary American craft

WASHINGTON, DC - The ReBokeh mobile app, designed to improve accessibility for vision-impaired individuals, is now available for free as a pilot project at the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s Renwick Gallery in Washington, D.C.

The ReBokeh mobile app, designed by and for the low-vision community, helps users to adjust the appearance of the world around them in order to fit their specific needs. The app leverages the real-time camera feed from your smartphone, and then allows users to overlay customized filters to adjust things like contrast, color hue, zoom, and lighting to meet the needs of low-vision users. Rather than fully replacing a person’s sight using audio or tactile descriptions, ReBokeh empowers visually-impaired people - 85% of whom have some usable vision - to engage more fully with their visual surroundings.

Visitors interested in using this assistive technology can do so free of charge, honoring the gallery’s commitment to cost-free access for all. ReBokeh’s advanced geofencing capabilities will enable any iOS user within the Renwick Gallery space to download and use ReBokeh’s premium-tier software for free for the duration of their visit.

“We’re so excited about the opportunity for Renwick visitors to use ReBokeh during this pilot program,” said Rebecca Rosenberg, founder and CEO at ReBokeh. “We hope ReBokeh will open the door to new experiences for vision-impaired individuals - and we encourage you to come to the Renwick and give it a try.”

ReBokeh plans to work with museums and public spaces in an effort to make low vision accessibility the rule rather than the exception.

About ReBokeh Vision Technologies

Founded in 2019, ReBokeh is on a mission to provide millions of low-vision individuals with assistive tech that’s reflective of their needs. ReBokeh’s flagship product, the ReBokeh mobile app, enables users to adjust the appearance of the world around them in order to help them navigate their specific visual condition. This approach empowers low-vision individuals to make use of their functional vision, rather than trying to replace it with tactile or audio descriptions.

ReBokeh’s premium-tier software enables users to adjust the appearance of the world around them in order to fit their specific needs, empowering people to navigate the daily challenges of living with a vision impairment. Its versatile technology works by leveraging the live camera feed from a device, and allowing users to overlay customized filters to adjust things like contrast, color hue, zoom and lighting to meet the needs of low-vision users.
